English Literature

One of the famous quotes about reading says “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go”. Through reading, you expose yourself to new things, new information, new ways to solve a problem, and new ways to achieve things. Reading is one of the important components in language.

  • To enhance this skill, we at TRIO have online reading programs called Book Flix, True Flix and Litpro Program from Scholastic. These programs are programmed grade wise and the students are assigned book according to their grade levels.
  • This online reading helps the children to improve their reading and comprehending skills. They have varied collection of books with different genres.
  • The Book Flix is aimed at improving comprehending skills through grade-1 to grade-3. This program contains fiction and nonfiction part coupled with lot of activities.
  • The True Flix is for grade-4 to grade-8 and it aims at developing the reading skills as well as knowledge related to various facts as these books are non-fiction based. These have videos about the topic too.
  • The litpro program is a reading program where a student’s reading level is measured through assessment which is conducted twice a year which gives a lexile score and this score is the numeric representation of an individual’s reading ability or a text’s readability. By getting these scores, it makes it easy for the teachers to assign books of their level and chosen genre to the students.
  • The children are assessed through a quiz on the assigned books which will improve their lexile levels through the year and the teacher has a tab on the student’s improved reading ability.

Second Language

Apart from Hindi and Kannada as second language, the students can also choose French from Grade V.
French enjoys an indisputable status of a global language. Being the most popular option for second language in schools, students have considerable personal, professional and social advantages from acquiring French as a second language. In addition, speaking French opens doors to a fascinating world of music, art, literature and fashion and widen one’s understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures. Moreover, research shows that learning more than one language/foreign language strengthens ones problem solving, reasoning and creative thinking skills as well as an improved memory.
Students learn to use French to communicate and interact effectively. Over time, students will acquire a solid understanding of French with a focus on all of the major skills of language acquisition – writing, speaking, reading and listening. Writing and speaking is emphasized, while we strive to balance all these 4 skills for effective second language acquisition. We use animations, audio exercises, and listening activities to complement this experience.

Math Programme

Mathematics has to be taught not as a subject but as a life skill which will help students not only to solve mathematical problems, but to have the right attitude for problem solving and to be able to deal with all kinds of problems in a systematic manner.
At TRIO our aim is to make sure that the students enjoy the subject, apply it successfully in their daily life and develop the characteristics of being logical in analysis and disciplined in work. It has three integrated elements to it: Alpha Math Programme, Math Lab and Mindspark.

Alpha Math Programme– Trio World School follows the Singapore based Alpha Math Programme upto grade 5. Different approaches to deal with topic is applied to ensure that multiple intelligence is addressed through activities and projects.

Math Lab – Math Lab helps students to practically understand a specific math concept. Using the math lab manipulatives, a topic is introduced in a physical way.  Once they are able to understand the concept visually and kinesthetically, it is made abstract by solving similar problems on board.

Mindspark

Mindspark is an online computer based self-learning programme that helps the child improve his/her skills in Maths upto grade3. The mindspark programme allows the students to follow a learning path that is based on their current level and at a pace they are comfortable with.

Technology

“To be effective, technology and teachers must work together to provide challenging learning opportunities.” Technology can become the catalyst for change to help students to use higher order thinking skills.

  • Beyond the students’ future, learning that is fun, hands-on and challenging will engage the student. The Internet has opened up so many avenues for teachers to teach content. ( Ignitor – tab content)
  • To allow students the chance to manipulate technology independently.
  • Students will learn from their failures and troubleshoot solutions
  • Along with acquiring skills and additional knowledge and refining social skills, being a tech team member can be a self-esteem builder for the participants.
  • As students became increasingly knowledgeable, they take on more responsibility.

Assessments: Assessment is an integral part of instruction, as it determines whether or not the goals of education are being met. We believe in a stress free environment for students till Class 3 and hence follow continuous assessment through observation and formative assessments. However as students’ progress into Class 4, we start conditioning them to cope up with the concept of exams. There will be internal assessments based on projects, assignments and chapter checks.

  • Class 1, 2, 3- No Exams, only formative assessments after every unit
  • Class 4, 5 – Two scheduled assessments- one in October/November and another in March that will be graded.
  • Class 6 onward- Three scheduled assessments- one in September, one in Dec/Jan and one in March which will be marked and graded.

Asset Exam; from Grade 3 onwards; ASSET (Assessment of Scholastic Skills through Educational Testing) is a benchmarking and diagnostic test.
