Why experiential learning matters <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you ask a child, \u201cWhere do you get coriander from?\u201d the most common answer would be \u00a0\u201cthe vegetable shop.\u201d

But what happens when children move beyond this simple understanding and experience the journey of food from soil to plate?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Experiential learning plays a vital role in helping students develop real-world awareness, responsibility, patience, and a deeper understanding of sustainability. By engaging directly with nature, children build essential life skills while strengthening their curiosity and critical thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At TRIO World School, our collaboration with Akshayakalpa brought this very transformation to life for our Class 4 learners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A hands-on journey from soil preparation to growth<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This project was not just about growing coriander.  It was about nurturing awareness, responsibility, and a deep connection with nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The learning unfolded as a rich, hands-on experience. Students began by preparing the seed beds, understanding the importance of soil health and the right conditions for growth. With care and consistency, they watered the seeds daily, observing changes with curiosity and anticipation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most magical moment came with the first signs of life: tiny green shoots emerging from the soil. This simple yet profound experience sparked joy, wonder, and a sense of achievement among the students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the plants grew, so did the children\u2019s learning. They engaged in weeding, understood the importance of nurturing living organisms, and developed patience and responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The process was not rushed; it allowed them to slow down, observe, and truly connect with nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the joy of discovery to the reward of effort<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Finally, the harvest brought immense pride and satisfaction. What once seemed like a small herb from a shop had now become a symbol of effort, care, and learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activity was free of cost, and children went home with products like raw honey, cow ghee, buttermilk, and coconut oil from Akshayakalpa, further reinforcing the connection between natural farming and everyday life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Integrating learning beyond the classroom<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This multifaceted project beautifully integrated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    More importantly, it helped children realise that food does not simply \u201ccome from a store\u201d . It is grown, nurtured, and cared for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Shaping mindful, environmentally conscious global citizens<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Such experiences are essential in shaping mindful, responsible global citizens who value sustainability and understand their role in protecting the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
